The news from Blender's upcoming 4.0 milestone keep coming, cementing how the massive improvements this release will bring. The latest addition is the successor to the venerable Filmic view transform, AgX!
Blender 4.0 will have vastly improved handling of saturated highlights, as "Filmic" is being replaced by "Agx" as the default View Transform.
Sounds minor but it means more realistic renders without the artist needing to know or do anything.

This view transform promises to have some of the best performance yet, surpassing the old Filmic and Aces in many areas, including with great handling of saturated highlights, without the hue shifting issues with ACES and the Notorious 6 issue with filmic (more information on this on the feature's pull request, and check out Chris Brejon's deep dive for even more information on all these issues). Blender users have already started showing the incredible power of AgX in their tests:
I'm really liking the new AgX View Transform in Blender 4.0, it works great for very bright and saturated lights!
Also, the recent changes to the Principled BSDF make sheen SO much easier to use and actually see results without cranking the value way beyond 1 . ?? #b3d #3d pic.twitter.com/vHmbHV5MvZ— Julian Perez (@julper) August 30, 2023
