Elephants Dream is not the only movie that is being produced with Blender at the moment. The Argentinean studio Manos Digitales is working on 'PlumiÌferos', a commercial 75-minute feature film, completely created in Blender.
You may have seen their early trailer which was nominated for the Blender Art Festival 2005. They are working on a HD version of this one which will hopefully be released in the next few weeks.
The scale of this project is much larger than Elephants Dream. Malefico Andauer writes:
We have currently 10 people working on 3D, 6 people in the art department, 2 people in production department and the director (Daniel DeFelippo). We have a schedule of 18 months for the whole production. For rendering we are in the process of setting up our own renderfarm (around 24 computers in 2 racks).
During next weeks we'll be modelling characters, preparing material/textures libraries and making all needed riggings. Our plan is to render with the internal Blender renderer. we're using Blender CVS for everything including postproduction.
Unlike Elephants Dream, PlumiÌferos will not be an 'Open Source' movie. Still, Blender will undoubtedly profit from their work:
PlumiÌferos is a full lenght commercial animation film. Nevertheless, we collaborated closely with the Blender Foundation in the development of Blender as an animation tool and surely, all the improvements that arise as a result of this project will be opportunely integrated in the future oficial versions.
From what they've shown so far this is a very promising project. We'll keep a close eye on this project and report back to you when they report progress.

I'm interested on how they will set up this Render farm. Can someone point this out? Maybe a good tutorial will be good for the site
Hey Scott,
I don't know how they are going to set it up, it will be interesting to read some other posts. If you would like to read an interesting article about setting up your own render farm , using easily aquired "disgarded" computers, check out this article at Extremetech, http://www.Extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1847356,00.asp
Bleeeennd on...
Question:
...will be the Python Scripts and Tools Used in Plumiferos Film during the Production Period somewhere available for Download?
Or a Special Plumiferos Blender Version Build with some new Features Included!!
as Example i Read somewhere they use a Python Script to make Feathers for the Birds!
Or i see in a Picture Screenshot: a Blender Build with a nice Plumiferos Splash Screen!
Can we Download somewhere this Blender Version Updated with all new Blender Features and Python Scripts??
It would be Great if in the "Plumiferos Blog Site" you can find a Download link also with....Python Scripts and Testing Builds available!!
seeYa
Yeah indeed this projects it just as awesome as the Orange Project. When I saw the video at the Bconf 2005, I was like, whooow that's cool. When the trailer shown on BConf 2005 was in english, it should have had more intrest. But when I came home I tried to find something about it, because I found the way how they did the trailer quite cool. It just gave me a Pixar feeling, and I thought whooow that was cool. I found the part where they fly over the traffic the coolest part. :D
I'm looking towards it, I hope there will be an english version of it, and it would be even more kickass to have a Dvd published of it as well, well you can count me in to buy one. :)
Keep going, I love this project.
Thanks for the support !
Vassilios: All scripts we are developing for helping our animators/modellers will be available sooner or later at the plumiferos site. At the moment there are no real difference between Blender version we use and current CVS. All patches we applied in the past (merge tools, array modifiers and so on), are now integrated in CVS so, no real "Plumiferos version" here (aside of splash screen).
Our "development help" currently only means that we are reporting bugs almost every day (getting Ton increasingly busy :-) ). However we are in the search for developers that could work here in the studio. Once we have some coders here, all patches we might generate will be posted in Patch Tracker.
Scott: Once we setup our renderfarm we surely post a tutorial on how we did it.
JD-Multi: Thanks for your kind comments.
Best regards
malefico and the Plumiferos Team.

To malefico and the Plumferos Team:
Bravo!
I watched the trailer on your website...Creo que es maravillosa! Lo siento, my Espanol is not good. I'm looking forward to seeing the film. I hope that you get a great distribution deal. I also look forward to more "behind the scenes," and "making of" type of things from your crew. There is always something magical associated with making "peliculas," especially animations. Muchas gracias from California!
Saludos...
Yeah I'm waiting for this one too. I heard venomgfx is starting to work with it too, only getting better. ;)
