INTRODUCTION
My name is Nguyễn Nông Ngọc Khánh, and I live and work in Vietnam. I came across Blender in 2009 quite by chance, and I have loved it ever since. My main job is to create 3D visualizations from 2D sketches for architectural projects. Additionally, I occasionally take on freelance jobs, such as modeling 3D objects or creating short animations for educational purposes.
INSPIRATION
I have always wanted to improve my Blender skills by working on various projects to achieve the results that I wanted. For this project, I created the concept with Stable Diffusion, based on some keywords: living room, dimly lit, moody light, many plants, raining outside, and foggy weather.
After many attempts, I finally got a result that inspired me and I decided to recreate this scene in Blender.
MODELING
I modeled the wall, floor, the ground outside, and all the glass windows based on the concept. I made sure to keep them as simple as possible while ensuring the correct scale in the real world.
I also created simple shapes for all the pots inside the house.
TEXTURING
For the wall and floor objects, I used textures from the Quixel Megascan Library, specifically the brown clay and old wooden materials.
The wooden frame of windows and doors is simpler; I used only 1 wooden texture and an imperfection map for it.
All the pots have procedural materials on them.
The most complicated material in this scene is the glass. I tried to create glass with water streaks (after the rain) and a foggy effect to show the cold ambiance outside.
LIGHTING
The lighting setup is very simple; I used only 1 HDRi from PolyHaven named Roof Garden to illuminate the room.
PROPS
I created Ivy branches in the room using the IvyGen Addon and added a plant model from my library.
After that, I added some simple Ivy models from Quixel Megascan.
Furniture, trees and other plants, were taken from Maxtree models, Bproduction Vegetation addon, and my own library.
COMPOSITING
I used composition guides and depth of field in the camera settings to find some nice angles for this scene. The rule of thirds is my favorite option for archviz, and I always turn on "Show Focus Plane" to control DOF more easily.
After all, K-Cycles render with Post FX features helped me create some nice final renders without post-processing, such as Bloom effect and chromatic aberration.
And, that is all the process behind my artwork. Below are the final renders!
