Anyone of us BlenderHeads know that in the last days CVS repository's code is being updated every 40-50 minutes, but only the brave hearted who tried to make a development build know what's going on in detail apart from Ton's rederer rewrite and noodles (the new node system for material definition and compositing).
Two new node types made their way through the Bf repository, Vector Blur and Time:
the first one is what will replace the actual Motion blur functionality, using the power of the new pass rendering system (partially disabled and actually under active development) the direction and velocity of objects in a scene can be stored in the rendering buffer, feeding the Vector Blur node with those information will enable us to render motion blur in a fast and easy-to-adjust way (at the time of writing Vector Blur node was fixed and now works the way it should); Time node brings curve-driven animatable parameters in the node compositing system enabling effects such as animated Depth of Field.
From the Patch tracker side come two little jewels that will be merged for sure / are being merged:
- The Array modifier (stackable), finally a real tool for parametrical cloning needs
- A sequence editor fix that will enable Blender to be employed in the post-production of long video sequences (the patch's author succeded producing a 2 hour long video!)
Moreover the scons build system is going through a full rewrite, the source of four sequence plugins has been added to the release folder in the repository (color correction hsv, color correction yuv, gamma and dynamic noise reduction, the latter inherited by the VirtualDub's filter with the same name), five new scripts were put in the bundle (uv relax, uv copy, uv from adjacent, updated 3ds import, updated obj import) and ffmpeg functionalities are being implemented (this will fix the limited codec support under Linux).
So stop reading and go for one of the available development builds to play with ;-)

Thanks for the update! I have to admit, development has been moving so fast I've felt a little lost lately.
I'm fairly sure peter merged the sequencer code before this was written :)

Please let us know if grouping objects (and naming the groups) make it in 2.42
I saw the sequence editor patch in action in the Orange studio a few weeks ago and it was incredible! Really nice stuff; Blender keeps amazing me..
"Please let us know if grouping objects (and naming the groups) make it in 2.42"
Object Grouping is already in together with group naming, the latter seems to me not so easy to find in the GUI (the group name can be changed in buttons window > object tab > Object and Link panel of a selected group member object, maybe a simple script could bring a dedicated panel to rename existing groups).
About grouping:
I downloaded the last version from cvs to see grouping at work. I expected that to be more straightforward, like -- Select two or more objects, hit Ctrl-G, and input in a field the desired name for the group. Also, I expected the groups to behave afterwards like one entity when selecting any of their components. Not so.
So... is this the final code for Groups?
Maybe you aren't using groups in the right way, group members cannot be selected separately in a group istance (SPACE > Add > Group > yourgroupname), you missed this step for sure ;-)
