CgTalk Ocean Simulation Challenge

1

ocean shoreIf you want to test your animation and special effects skills then maybe CgTalk's Ocean Simulation Challenge is a nice way to spend your weekend.

Here's the info:

THE CHALLENGE: Create a REALISTIC OCEAN SIMULATION. You will simulate either the a BEACH SHORE, OPEN OCEAN or A SHIP at sea.

There will be three types of categories :

  • THE BEACH (Waves gently rolling on a beach.)
  • THE OPEN OCEAN (Ocean Waves )
  • THE SHIP (A ship moving up an down in the ocean.)

Extra bonus if you can simulate storm weather on any of the three categories. You may add live action people walking / swimming in the virtual ocean, or in the deck), but the key is the simulation.

The full information is available on the CgTalk forums.

And as fate would have it, Colin Litster has just posted the first part of his Ocean tutorial. Go check it out, but do keep this rule in mind ;-)

No work taken DIRECTLY from an existing tutorial. You may use an existing tutorial only for reference.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.
