Blender Quickstart Guide

3

QuickstartThe Docboard team have published a very useful 'Blender Quickstart Guide': everything you need to get started on one page.

The blender QuickStart guide provides you a basic overview of blender functionality on a single A4 page, ready to print. It is designed for beginners who don't want to read the whole documentation, and for experienced 3D artists who want to quickly learn blender.

I've always really liked the ideas of 'cheatsheets' and I think (a link to) the Quickstart should be included in every Blender distribution. Also, depending on how useful other people think this is, it might be a good idea to create Quickstarts for more specific subjects such 'Lamps and Materials', 'Rendering' and others.

You can find the Quickstart on the Documentation Wiki.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. This is excellent! I love quickstart guides. I definitely agree with you about quick starts for more specific subjects. Good work on this blog too. Great design, and its nice to be kept up-to-date on blender news!

  2. it is nice but essential things are missing :
    for camera : ctrl-0 (or ctrl alt 0 i don't remember)
for mesh editing : the K menu (i find it more important than the ctrl e menu)
for layers : they can be accessed by pressing the number/special characters keys above the letters on the keyboard
