After 15 months of work, the Blender Studio's latest short movie is now available online. It's ann 80’s-inspired horror comedy, set in Britain: When a group of rowdy teenagers trek into an isolated forest, they discover peaceful mushroom creatures that turn out to be an unexpected force of nature.

As always, you can get the production files, assets and exclusive making-of videos by joining Blender Studio.

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). I founded BlenderNation in 2006 and have been editing it every single day since then ;-) I also run the Blender Artists forum and I'm Head of Community at Sketchfab.

  1. I like that it is somewhat more daring than the overly cute animation of the big studios, but I hoped there would be some good humor in it. The humor now is just boring, unfunny and predictable. Nice try, but overall a big letdown.

Imagine you are said you will recieve some free surprise food. You are all excited expecting a burger (cause it is your favorite) but instead you recieve mashed potatoes with some beef steak and a bit of salad. It is still a pretty good meal, just not what you expected.
The same goes for this film. This is not intended to be a fun and filled with humor story but an horror one, and it does a very good work at it.

As a demonstration of Blender's continually-evolving technical capabilities, this movie is very fine – including the "cut scenes" in the trailer. But as a STORY, I found it to be very awkward, especially at the very end.
