As a teenager watching the original ‘King Kong’ movie on late night television John Cox decided that he wanted to make creatures for the movies. John has since become an internationally renowned leader in the design and manufacture of photo realistic animatronic fantasy creatures, monsters and talking animals.
Based on the Gold Coast his company, John Cox’s Creature Workshop, has worked on projects shot in Hong Kong, Korea, Europe, South Africa, New Zealand and USA and Australia. His client list includes Walt Disney Pictures, Universal, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. Credits include ‘Nim’s Island’, ‘Rogue’, ‘The Host’, ‘Racing Stripes’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Pitch Black’, ‘George of the Jungle 2’, ‘Inspector Gadget’, ‘Scooby Doo’, and ‘Babe’.
John’s exciting and educational ‘behind the scenes’ museum exhibition entitled ‘How to Make a Monster: the art and technology of animatronics’ will open 3 May at Saint Louis Science Center, USA.
John received a 1995 Academy Award for Visual Effects for the movie ‘Babe’ and is a voting member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Academy Awards). John received a 2007 AFI award for Visual Effects for ‘Rogue’ and in 2006 was appointed Smart State Ambassador for Creative Arts.
They are currently making ‘Mach 5’ cars for the soon to be released ‘Speed Racer’, these cars will be at car shows and promotional events in Tokyo, Brazil, Mexico, USA, Zurich, Australia, Tapai, Latin America and Bangkok.
