After traversing the globe for five years from her base in Paris, Sarah Callinan is pursuing a career in academe. Her focus is on the dissemination of ideologies via new media technologies and interactivity by twenty-first century institutions, specifically museums. This domain encompasses mixed reality exhibits and experience design. As a student in the final session of a Bachelor of Media degree at Southern Cross University her artistic endeavours and career are at a beginning. Examples of the projects she has undertaken in conjunction with this degree often draw on her magical realism narratives, originally in short story form, which have been evolved into the virtual realm.
Sarah’s projects include animations, an interactive installation, web design and the creation of a digital zine. Sarah is currently producing black and white pieces to be included in a photographic exhibition (mid October 2010), volunteering as a gallery assistant, and working with projection mapping, which will entail a public display incorporating animation so as to affect the enlivening of architectural space and the enhancement of rural community identity through globalisation. This journey witnesses the beginning of her academic exploration of new media technologies and holographics.
