In May 2000 Dr Ian Galloway was appointed as CEO of the Queensland Museum.
Ian has a wealth of experience in Museum management gained through his role as Deputy CEO at Museum Victoria and his involvement in Australia’s largest Museum development program.
Ian holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Entomology and a Masters Degree in Management from the University of Queensland.
Since his appointment as CEO of the Queensland Museum Ian has overseen a major expansion of the Museum’s Regional Network with the opening of the Museum of Tropical Queensland (Townsville), The Workshops Rail Museum (Ipswich) and a major addition to Cobb & Co Museum (Toowoomba). Ian has also overseen the rejuvenation of the Museum’s flagship campus – Queensland Museum South Bank – beginning with the development of an off-site Collection Store in 2003 and culminating in the opening of a new entrance, foyer, and state-of-the-art Sciencentre in September 2004.
In 1998 Ian attended the Getty Institute for Museum Management at the University of California at Berkeley. In 2007 Ian was invited by the Getty to be a member of the selection panel for candidates for this internationally recognised leadership program and has served in this capacity for the past three years.
Ian was elected Chairman of the Australian National Committee of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) in 2001- a position he held until May 2007.
His interests include running, having competed in Half Marathons in Melbourne and the Gold Coast, and the Noosa and Mooloolaba Triathlons. .
