IDEAS festival: Q-Garland Potential Public Space

QGarland is a collaboration between Donovan Hill and Wilson Architects, to impart knowledge to the public on potential public space.

The QGarland installation itself is an intervention in the public realm; a temporary setting that redirects the focus of those entering the State Library of Queensland. The display consists of a garland of 3000 paper flowers, symbolising the importance of public space as a destination for society.

The images on display show before and ‘after’ photoshop-ed public spaces within the Millennium Arts Precinct. Each image depicts a different scenario that could potentially activate underutilized public spaces; posing a question to the public. This interactive component, allows the public to place their comments on a tag and tie it to installation, contributing to a community noticeboard.

Volunteers from the offices of Donovan Hill and Wilson Architects also man the installation, allowing the public to interact and converse the topic of public space.
