SUE LEE
performance artist

I am a visual artist working with the visual image through the mediums of video, performance art, wearable art, installation and mixed- media. I often use recycled material, sourced from the environment or from my previous artworks. A constant objective is to create accessible work that explores universal themes and current concerns. I also have a passion for the collaborative process and using the visual arts as a tool for community cultural development.

My visual arts practice includes participation in exhibitions, performances and festivals in Australia, Korea, Japan, Canada and the US. I have initiated several international projects including the Provincial Spirit Apron Project, an Australian – Korean- Canadian international travelling visual arts project, ongoing since 2003; Woodford International Performance Art Festival, staged within the Woodford Folk Festival; and was a founding member of Creative Mobility, known for its work in the arts and disability. I believe that: Art is a powerful tool for creating awareness, dissolving barriers and bringing people together. (Creative Mobility).

I have recently returned to the town of Maleny, in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland after several years living and working in South Korea. I am currently setting up the ‘Artist Tree’, an art studio/ workshop space in Maleny, for the nurturing of creative projects in the visual and experimental arts.
