Penny Smith is a visual artist currently employed as Visual Arts Programme Manager for events organised by the Queensland Folk Federation, including the Woodford Folk Festival and The Dreaming - Australia’s International Indigenous Festival. Her background includes arts project management, public art, festival arts and installations, community arts workshop facilitation and hands-on arts practice across a variety of disciplines. Her personal creative work also incorporates an array of design activities, combining illustration, illustrative mapping, graphic design and book design.
As a community artsworker, Penny focuses on the planning and creation of original and dynamic art programs and projects for festivals and other events, many of which involve collaborative and sustained community participation, on a small or large scale. These projects as well as her personal art frequently draw on themes concerned with intercultural dialogue and expressions advocating a desire for environmentally sustainable precepts.
