GEORGE WU
fashion designer

The GEORGE WU collection began in 2005 after its founder George Wu finished his fashion bachelor degree at QUT with a small graduation collection. The collection was well received right from the very first appointment with orders from exclusive boutiques nationally.

George’s first collection was snapped up by buyers from KISSES (Brisbane) and Adrenalin (Gold Coast) within two days of the launch. Now GEORGE WU label has been hung next to labels such as Stella McCartney, Willow, Collette Dinnigan, Jayson Brunsdon, and Marc Jacobs in various boutiques nationally.

George Wu has quickly became a rising star in the Australian fashion world, as a finalist in the prestigious Mercedes Start Up Program in 2005, which enabled him to showcase his designs at MBFF 2006 (Mercedes Brisbane Fashion Festival). The response was so positive about his label, Austrade has invited GEORGE WU to show case and featuring his designs on the runway at New York City during Australia week in January 2007 and 2008. Now GEORGE WU has been picked up by an U.S. agent and have stockists in NYC, Miami, Houston and L.A. as well as appointments with buyers from Neiman Marcus and Barneys.

Not only involved in runway shows, George Wu was also invited to exhibit his artwork fashion garments in QUT’s art museum and was invited to participate in a fashion symposium. As his label expanded, George Wu never ceased to believe in hands-on work, and remained personally involved in pattern cutting, sewing, finishing and fitting to ensure that every design is a work of art. Such attention to details has attracted opportunities to dress celebrities like Veronicas, Angelina Jolie and host of USA reality TV show Cat Deeley on “So You Think You Can Dance”.

Quality and art are combined once more in the Spring/Summer 2008-09 GEORGE WU collection. The exploration of asymmetrical drape with the contrasting look of structural lines is what this new exciting range is all about. The GEORGE WU tradition continues, using the best textiles combined with the skills of cut and innovation that has made George Wu a force in the Australian fashion industry. Collection available in Gold Coast’s Adrenalin boutique from August 2008.
